Buy credits and read your ledger

taproute is prepaid. You buy a pack of credits once, spend them as codes are created and scanned, and buy again when you want to. There is no subscription and nothing renews on its own. This covers making a purchase, reading the history afterwards, and the two expiry clocks that work differently from each other.

Buy a pack

  1. Open Billing. The Credit packs section lists every pack with its price, how many scans it covers, and its effective rate per 1,000 scans.
  2. Press Buy on the pack you want. You are handed to our payment provider's checkout to pay by card.
  3. Finish checkout. You come back to Billing and see "Payment received · your credits are landing now, and a receipt is on its way."
  4. Wait a few seconds for the balance at the top to move. The page checks for you repeatedly after a purchase, so there is nothing to refresh.

If the balance has not moved yet

Do not buy again. Your browser comes back from checkout faster than the payment confirmation reaches us, so for a few seconds the old balance is the honest answer. The page re-checks on its own for about ten seconds and stops as soon as the number changes. If it still has not landed after that, the purchase is recorded on our side regardless · the History table below is the place to confirm it.

The packs

Every pack unlocks the same features. What changes is how many credits you get, the effective rate, and how many custom domains the workspace may hold. Nothing here is a tier with things locked behind it.

The Billing screen shows each pack by its price and rate rather than its name, so match on the price column if you are comparing the two.

Read the History table

Under History is every movement of the wallet, newest first. Two filters sit above it: Everything and Purchases. Start with Purchases if you are reconciling a card statement, and Everything if you are asking where the credits went.

  • Item · what happened. A purchase, or the action that spent credits.
  • Change · credits in or out. Purchases are positive; scans, code creation and one-time unlocks are negative.
  • When · the timestamp.
  • Order reference · on a purchase row. Its tooltip explains what it is for · "quote this on an expense claim or when contacting support". This is the number to put on an expense claim; there is no separate invoice to hunt down.

If Purchases is empty you have not bought a pack yet, and the table says so directly: "No purchases yet. Credits you buy will be listed here with their order reference."

Further down, Your rate card lists what every billable action costs on your workspace. It is the same rate for every pack · see credits and billing for the reasoning behind each line.

What things cost

The lines you will meet first

  • Creating a dynamic code · 1 credit, once.
  • Each scan of a dynamic code · 1 credit.
  • Changing a routing rule or a gate · 5 credits, charged on every change · add, edit or remove · a save that changes nothing is free.
  • Page analytics on a saved static code · 200 credits, once, per code.
  • Claiming a printed code you cannot reprint · 50 credits, once.
  • An extra custom domain · 40,000 credits, once.
  • Static codes made in the studio · free to make, free to scan, with no credits used.

Two clocks, and they are different

Do not confuse these

  • Credits you bought · valid 18 months. The screen states it as "Credits valid 18 months. Any top-up rolls everything forward", and that rolling is the useful part: buying a new pack extends the validity of the balance you already had, so a workspace that tops up occasionally never loses anything. You are warned by email 30 days ahead.
  • The 30 credits you start with · these expire in 7 days, not 18 months. They are there to let you make a code and watch it get scanned before deciding anything. This is the single most surprising thing about starting out, so treat that week as the window to try the thing you actually came to try.

Any documentation that says credits are valid 12 months is out of date, and anything that says they never expire is wrong. The number that governs is the one on the Billing screen.

When the balance reaches zero

Nothing is deleted, and nothing is auto-charged. What happens is a grace period, then a pause:

  1. Grace. Codes keep resolving on grace scans. The banner says "Your codes are safe. Nothing is deleted. Redirects continue through your grace period." The window lasts up to 14 days or an extra 5% of scans, whichever runs out first.
  2. Paused. Once both are used up, codes stop resolving and scanners see a paused page instead of the destination. Your codes, pages, designs and history are all still there.
  3. Top up. Buying any pack brings everything back immediately, with no resetup and no reprinting. The codes in the world never changed.

A paused code is not a dead code, but it is also not a working one · be honest with yourself about the difference if something of yours is in print. To avoid getting there, both switches on the Billing page help: Auto-refill emails you a one-click refill link when the balance drops below a number you choose, and never charges you automatically, and Balance alerts emails you as your balance crosses 50%, 90% and 100% of your last top-up.
