QR Codes Without a Subscription

The code did not stop working. An account did.

no subscription · pay per scan · nothing to cancel

What expired was a business relationship, not a pattern

When a printed code goes dark the symbol is fine and the phone is fine. Across this category, several vendors publish exactly what happens when a trial ends, and it happens to the codes you already printed.

  • A trial ends and every code printed during it goes inactive at once.
  • Cancelling a subscription can take the printed codes with it, by design and in writing.
  • The plan caps how many codes you may keep, so old campaigns get deleted to make room.
  • A card expires, nobody notices, and the packaging in the field is the last to find out.

What there is to cancel here, and what there is not

  1. Buy credits once

Credits are bought in a pack and are not a recurring charge. We hold no charging authority, so nothing can renew and nothing can surprise you.

  2. Spend them as things happen

1 credit to create a dynamic code, once. 1 credit per scan. A custom routing rule is 5 credits, every change · add, edit or remove · a save that changes nothing is free.

    create 1 credit · scan 1 credit · rule change 5 credits
  3. At zero, a grace period and then an honest page

Past a zero balance the codes keep resolving for 14 days or 5 percent of your last pack, whichever ends first. Then they serve a branded paused page rather than a dead link.

What changes when nothing recurs

  • A quiet month costs nothing

There is no plan whose lapse could take a printed code offline, because there is no plan.

  • No cap on how many codes

Codes are priced individually at 1 credit rather than rationed by tier, so an old campaign never has to be deleted to make room for a new one.

  • Credits last 18 months

A top-up rolls the whole balance forward, so buying ahead for a print run does not create a use-it-or-lose-it deadline.

  • Scans keep the account alive

A code that is still being scanned keeps your account alive, whether or not you ever sign in. We measure the printed object, not the login.

  • A paused page, not a dead link

If the balance does run out, the code serves a page saying so. It is never repointed at advertising and the address is never given to another link.

  • Static codes stay free

The in-browser studio makes static codes at no cost, because they cost us nothing to serve.

Questions

Is there really no monthly plan?

No. Credits are prepaid and spent as codes are created and scanned. There is no recurring charge, no auto-renewal, and no card on file unless you choose to buy again.

How long do credits last?

They stay valid for 18 months, and topping up rolls the entire balance forward rather than only the new credits. The 30 credits you get at signup are a 7 day trial rather than a free tier.

What happens when my balance reaches zero?

On a paid account, codes keep resolving for 14 days or 5 percent of your last pack, whichever ends first. After that they pause and serve a branded page. Nothing is deleted, slugs are never recycled, and topping up resumes everything on the same URLs. A trial account has no grace window.

So codes can stop working here too?

They can pause, and we would rather say so plainly. At least one competitor never pauses codes at all, which is a better posture than ours on that specific point. The difference is what pausing means: nothing is deleted, the address is never reassigned, and any top-up brings the printed code back exactly as it was.

What if I only need a code that never changes?

Then use a static one and pay nothing. The free studio builds them in your browser and they work forever. Dynamic codes are worth paying for only when the destination has to stay editable.
